Firstly I was encouraged by Karen to see a woman’s health physio who did an internal exam which really gave me confidence that I wasn’t going to damage anything inside. I was so protective over my c section scar and not over-exerting that area even though it was 6 years since I’d given birth. After the all clear I felt confident I was okay internally and my body was okay/safe to exercise my core. Karen also massaged my scar and brought all feeling that I’d not felt there since the c sections. Looking back, psychologically these 2 things formed a pretty crucial foundation before I started the course.
I felt the exercises taught me very quickly and easily from the start where my core muscles were and how I could activate them simply by breathing and movement. I found the first block of exercises straightforward although needed concentration on breathing. I found Jenny’s videos extremely useful and well put together. Exercises have got progressively harder but I have never feel like I’m overdoing it and have now got to the point where I can automatically feel my core muscles working in the sessions without so much concentration.
The biggest positive change I have noticed is how I now correct myself in daily life without really thinking about it. For example I catch myself leaning forward as I’m walking uphill avoiding using my core muscles, and I correct it.
Karen is very knowledgeable and I’ve enjoyed learning and understanding how and why my body and core has struggled since my c sections. Jenny’s introductory video which explained about the core muscles was also brilliant for this at the start of the course, I learnt a lot.
I’ve also enjoyed the course as I know it is exactly the right programme for me in terms of focussing on my core - I always felt group Pilates and yoga was too general and not addressing MY issue.
The flexibility afforded to me by Karen for our sessions over the past year has enabled me to work at my own pace around family commitments, which has been great.
The downtraining part of the course has also been really beneficial for me, it’s always a part I would’ve skipped in the past but I really enjoy it now as the stretches feel fantastic!
